“One of the top contemporary surrealists.” ― Art & Antiques
PAINTINGS
Cynthia von Buhler's art from 1997-2011 focused on themes of captivity and freedom. Von Buhler rescued and raised the birds photographed with her paintings. They are not caged in real life. They come and go as they please at The Fur Gnarl, the artist's private animal sanctuary. All other flora and fauna were found on the woodland floor or made with clay. Von Buhler is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and passionate animal activist. She is currently working on a new series of paintings which will be exhibited in 2021.
