Cynthia von Buhler's paintings have won a plethora of awards and have been exhibited all over the world. Her work has appeared in prestigious publications such as The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic and thousands of others. It has also appeared on Law & Order SVU as the art of a serial killer and on The Lifetime Network for Mary Magdalen: An Intimate Portrait. Her art from 1997-2011 focused on themes of captivity and freedom. Von Buhler rescued and raised the doves and homing pigeons photographed with her paintings. They are not caged in real life. They come and go as they please at The Fur Gnarl, the artist's private animal sanctuary. All other flora and fauna were found on the woodland floor or made with clay. Von Buhler is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and passionate animal activist.
